Fine dining for the bucket list

Let my preface my review of this spot by saying it's definitely not somewhere I would have chosen of my own accord. I ate here when a friend was visiting from Australia (obviously pre-corona days). He's a chef back home, and wanted to dine at a Michelin starred spot while he was here. Kojyu is really to me the epitome of a special occasion restaurant. It's around 25,000 yen per person for a course lunch, which is to me one of those "once in a lifetime" things. I would recommend that if you dine here you're a seafood fan, since that's basically what the menu centers around. I'm not the biggest seafood fan, but my friend encouraged me to try everything that was served - even if it was just a few bites. He oohed and ahhed over tastes and textures, so maybe it's more designed to those with discerning palates. I'm a pub meal kind of person, so I don't know that I enjoyed it as much as someone else would. What I did really enjoy was how engaging the meal was. The chef is right up in front of you, and he explained various steps of the process. How he was slicing the fish, why certain ingredients were chosen, etc. All of this was done in English for us, too, which was nice! I'll always remember the experience I had here, maybe not necessarily for the food itself but for the memories associated with it.
