Gateway to Minamiboso City, peculiar sculpture
I chose Tomiura Station on the Uchibo Line my jumping off point for a day trip to the area. While there isn’t much immediately around the station, it’s a pleasant walk to the tourist information and Biwa Club, a “Michi no eki”. The station was unstaffed when I visited, so I tapped my Suica card on the card reader. Outside the station is a public toilet with a curious sculpture. A disembodied female leg, just one, in high heels (the empty right shoe next to it), perched on a toilet seat. It’s a mystery spot! The sculpture has no plaque, no title, no indication of who designed it or when. A little research reveals that the station was refurbished in the mid 90s and the sculpture may be the work of a local artist better known for depicting flora and fauna.
