French Cakes

There are plenty of cake shops to choose from in Kurume and some are French style while others have owners trained in another part of Europe. Avenue sells treats like macarons, cookies, and cakes, in the French tradition. The names are all French (in katakana) but luckily if you don't understand French, the descriptions will help explain what you're looking at. I went with a strawberry macaron and a tiny cake called 'fromage buran' after seeing it's 'rare cheesecake' frosted with fresh cream and topped with berries. They were enjoyed by my husband and I had a taste too. The macaron was super sweet and crispy - I wished I had picked up a raspberry one too! Avenue is usually closed on Mondays. Christmas cakes are available in season with pre-orders.
