Soy Soft Serve Ice Cream
On a recent visit to Arima near Kobe in Hyogo, we really enjoyed this soy soft serve ice cream. First of all, we both enjoy ice cream but don't enjoy drinking milk, so the fact that it's soy based was welcome. In addition, the black bean soft serve was really delicious. There are several soft serve types, some with tiny donut topping options. We chose a parfait with black bean soft cream, black beans, and “flakes” of broken tansan senbei which is the local souvenir. They are similar to adding corn flakes to a parfait with that crunchy and slightly salty flavor. The shop was closing and we just got one parfait to share, but it was so good that we wished we had ordered another kind to try as well. There is some cute Engrish on the menu too: of course soft cream is Japanese for soft serve and plane instead of plain. They close at 5pm as do most shops in the nieghborhood, so be sure to keep that in mind.
