My partner and I tried a class banana and chocolate parfait and cafe au laits off the menu and an egg and potato salad sandwich to take home. The cafe au laits arrived first, and they were piping hot, mild, and an excellent balance of milk to coffee, not overpowering, and the flourish of it being served in Christmas colored (green and red) was a cute touch. The time between ordering the parfait and it arriving was a bit lengthy, but it fits with the down home aesthetic that the store is cultivating. The parfait had a medley of fruit, bananas, mandarin oranges, stylistically cut and prepared apple slices, a sprinkle of frozen strawberries and a few blueberries with a healthy helping of chocolate syrup over a scoop of vanilla and chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and even a cherry on top. The time in preparation was worth the wait, and it was clearly painstakingly handmade. The parfait had a very classic feel, as the addition of corn flakes inside the body of the parfait, deep in the serving cup indicated. Under the the ice cream was a deep reservoir of even more chocolate syrup, so it finished a bit heavy, but if you want comfort food, then this parfait will hit the spot. The sandwiches are more of the same, an amazing amount of volume for the eggs and potato salad, and all the sandwiches are available for takeout. Classic white bread sandwiches, and the egg salad is rich and reminds me of the same my mother used to make. The potato salad is heavenly, and every bite was full of potato goodness. As you enter the restaurant, in fact, there are two arrows, one toward the counter for take away, and one toward the dining room for those eating in. The staff was all welcoming and friendly, and the orders went smoothly. The red interior is perfectly kitschy, and the Christmas music makes it feel like escaping to your mother’s house for a super filling meal. If you’re interested in stick to your ribs menu offerings and don’t mind waiting a bit for them, this place is perfect. Be careful about the hours. They have a morning open presumably catering mainly to take out and a lunch/early dinner set of hours for sit down cafe dining and snacking.
