Small museum with occasional free admission
Matsudo City's municipal museum is at the south end of 21st Century Forest and Square (search on Google Maps for 二十一世紀森と広場 for the location). The exhibits provide a broad overview of ancient and recent history in the region. One of the exhibits that I found appealing was the Showa era residence. It's a full-scale replica of a walk-up apartment with all the typical mid-20th century Japanese family accoutrements. There are also ancient history displays of pit dwellings and lifesize manequins depicting festival traditions. The museum's regular admission is waived on special days - April 29, 2024 (Opening Anniversary) May 5, 2024 (Children's Day) May 18, 2024 (International Museum Day) June 15, 2024 (Chiba Prefecture Day) November 3, 2024 (Culture Day) It's worth a gander when you visit the park.

The Matsudo Museum commemorates Matsudo City's history with exhibitions. In 2023, it hosted "Matsudo: A 150-Year Retrospective Through Photography" for the 150th anniversary of Chiba Prefecture and the 80th anniversary of Matsudo City. The exhibition showcased the city's evolution from the Meiji era to contemporary times through photos and artifacts, exploring themes like education, riverine lifestyles, transportation advancements, and changes in the 1950s and 1960s. The museum will present "Matsudo Exploration" from January 16 to March 20, 2024, immersing visitors in Matsudo's past daily life with solutions and wisdom. Highlights include ways to keep rice warm without electricity and stay cool in the summer, along with historical and contemporary photo displays showing the city's transformation. The Matsudo Museum offers a comprehensive experience for those interested in Matsudo's history and cultural heritage through its exhibitions.
