Hip cafe for taking it easy
Kasukabe City might not come to mind for hip coffee shops, but Border Cafe blazes the trail. Walk about 3 minutes north of Kasukabe Station's east exit along a street lined with a variety of stores - wagashi, geta, clothing boutiques, and one of the last tansu workshops. Border reminds me of cafes and coffee shops on the Canadian and US west coast. A wide window, some thrifted furniture for a retro feel, and lofty ceilings complete the look. The naugahide sofas swallow you up. There's also counter seating, too. The menu is what you'd imagine of a west coast cafe - teas, sodas, barista coffee, and a selection of beers. The hours are shorter than what's currently indicated on Google Maps. Last order is 7 p.m.
