    Tranquility in busy Ueno

If you're in the Ueno area visiting Ameyokocho and need a moment of respite, I recommend popping by Marishiten Tokudaiji Temple, often just referred to as Tokudaiji Temple. There's no exact date of when the temple was founded, but estimates put it around the first part of the 1600s – so there's quite a bit of history there. You do need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the shrine however, so it's probably not the best for anyone with mobility issues or with very young children in strollers.
