Fast food, Japanese style.
I recently found myself near Meguro station, and given that it was the dinner hour, I was quite hungry. I did not have a lot of time to eat a proper sit down meal, either, since I had an appointment. Luckily I happened upon Yoshinoya in front of JR Meguro Station. I ordered the regular gyudon (beef bowl) dish and added to it a bowl of tonjiru soup (a kind of pork soup). The food was good. Not great, but good and typical of other Yoshinoya's. This shop had only counter seating, as I think most or even all Yoshinoyas do. The service when I went was slow. In fact they took the orders of others who came after me before taking mine. I wonder if the guy assigned my section of counter was worried about needing to speak English? That is how slowly, in comparison, I was waited on. Oh well. After my order was finally taken, the food arrived promptly. The menu is al in Japanese, but on the front cover there is a QR code you can scan that will translate the menu into English. Korean, or Japanese. I did not think to try it while I was there, though. This place, aside from the bit of a wait to order, provided the filling, healthy (at least by comparison), fast food meal I needed.
