    Useful while touring Kawagoe

The Hello Cycling bikes have gone up in price quite a bit in the last few months, but Kawagoe seems to have a special deal with the company and its one of the cheapest places for the service. Kawagoe is currently trying to promote 'Green Tourism' sites which are away from the main tourist area and the Hello Cycling bikes are a great way to get to some of the rural locations. For example, the sunflowers in the Isanuma area of Kawagoe. There is a Hello Cycling station near the sunflowers beside a lovely period house cafe.

    Widely available bicycle rental

A casual search for rental bicycles in my area turned up Hello Cycling. Google map pins directed me to the website and within minutes, I had registered and found bicycle spots in the area I was intending to visit. The app, which is available in multiple languages, identifies bicycle spots, the number of bikes that can be rented or returned, and even the battery life on a specific bike. The electric assist bikes have a panel to tap in a number to release the bike and off you go. When you park, you simply slide the tire lock shut, and to unlock it again, tap in the registration number. I was pleased with the bike battery life, tire maintenance, and overall feel of these 3-speed bikes. I was able to release the bike at one spot and return it to another. The rate is reasonable, too, with about Y1000 for a full day. The website is easy to navigate and directs you to the app - https://www.hellocycling.jp/
