    Dramatically lit cave

A visit to Enoshima isn't complete without a visit to the cave complex. And it appeals to history buffs as the spot is said to have been a place of contemplation of the Buddhist founder Kobo Daishi and iconoclastic Saint Nichiren. The lore of the island, recorded in Enoshima Engi, has tales of a dragon quelled by Benzaiten who is enshrined on the island. The cave is dramatically lit and you'll spy little shrines and a statue of the dragon.

    Interesting geological area

The Iwaya Cave is a place that really is a testament to mother nature's power. It was created as a result of erosion by waves, and was historically an ancient religious training place. Since 1993 it has been a tourist destination, and it's a unique way to spend some time on a visit to Enoshima. I wouldn't say this would be my first choice if I only had one day on the island, but having visited on a couple of occasions this was a nice way to mix up our experiences a bit.
