How to get custom latte art in Harajuku
Do you like latte art? Do you like to customize things? Then there is a perfect cafe for you. At Café Reissue in Harajuku, Tokyo, you can get customized latte art on your drinks and on your desserts.
All you have to do is show a picture on your phone. It can be anything; your favourite anime character, a picture of yourself, a cute animal or even a fantasy creature like a unicorn.
Then you can choose whether you prefer a 2D or a 3D latte art and then the latte artist will work their magic. It might take a while for your drink to arrive, but it is worth the wait. Make sure to take pictures before you enjoy your drink as these are definitely "instaworthy."
The drinks are rather expensive and start at 1,100 yen. Depending on the type of art, additional fees might be added. You can choose from a variety of flavours at Café Reissue, like vanilla latte, honey latte, raspberry latte and more. For folks that don’t like coffee, you can also get a hot chocolate with latte art.
For the dessert, Café Reissue usually has a seasonal latte art dessert that comes with a default art. By paying an additional 200 yen you can customize that art to whatever you want to get a one and only dessert just for you.
The café also offers 3 different dishes for lunch that change daily and a variety of cold drinks but these don’t come with the art. The lunch dishes are at around 1,000 yen.
From my impression, everyone that goes to Café Reissue chooses one of the drinks with art though. At the moment it is very easy to get a seat even on weekends because they have fewer customers due to the pandemic. Before corona, it used to be crowded on the weekends so you might have had to wait a while.
Café Reissue had all the standard corona measures in place. Guest are asked to disinfect when entering, wear masks when not eating and the number of seats is reduced.
When I last visited, I had a short talk with one of the latte artists and they seem to be struggling right now due to the lower number of customers. I personally like this place and would be sad if they had to close. If you happen to be in Harajuku, why not pay a visit and enjoy a custom-made drink.
What kind of art would you choose?
