How to enjoy the new area of Tokyo Disneyland

In September the “New Fantasy Land” finally opened in Tokyo Disneyland. In this post I would like to explain how you can make the most of your visit to the new area. 

Buy a ticket

First of all you will need a ticket for Tokyo Disneyland. Currently, the number of visitors is limited due to COVID19, therefore tickets sell out quickly. You should buy your ticket as soon as possible especially if you plan to go on a weekend or national holiday.

Make reservations

Currently, some restaurants and all shops in the new area of Tokyo Disneyland require a reservation. Additionally, you will also require a reservation for shops in the other areas that sell merchandise from the “New Fantasy Land” collection. You can make reservations via the Disneyland website.

Reservations for shops can be made 5 days before your visit, starting at 0:00. The shops in the new area “Village Shops” do not sell any goods, they just have the items on display so you can order them through the Disneyland App. If you want to buy something and directly use it in the park, you would want to make a reservation for one of the shops outside the new area of Tokyo Disneyland. The shops outside the new area that require a reservation are Gag Factory, Kingdom Treasure and Planet M.

Restaurant reservations can be made a month before your visit to the new area of Tokyo Disneyland. You currently need a reservation for the new popcorn shop “Big Pop” and the Gaston restaurant “La Taverne de Gaston.”  If you were not fast enough on the day reservations started keep checking the Disneyland App regularly as sometimes new spots open up due to cancellations. I managed to get in a reservation for Big Pop on the day before my visit in the afternoon.

Participate in the lottery

All new attractions are currently only accessible through a lottery system. Once per visit you can try your luck in the Disneyland app for each attraction. There are several time slots you can choose that are about 1 to 2-hour windows. If you are lucky, you will be assigned a smaller window of about 20 minutes when you can ride the attraction. Make sure to not select times that could overlap with restaurant or shop reservations as you probably won’t make it to both.

Then you simply go to the attraction at the designated time and you will be able to get on it just like with a fast pass.

If you are unlucky, you will not be able to ride the attraction on that visit, unfortunately.
