Halloween themed food in Japan for 2019

I must admit that this year I am a little less enthusiastic about the Halloween themed-menus in Japan as they tend to be similar to what I have seen last year but nevertheless I did try a few Halloween-themed food already in 2019.

Pokemon Cafe Halloween menu

As with last year, the Pokemon Cafe has a Halloween limited menu for 2019.

There are three different menus at the Pokemon Cafe you can choose from. I decided to try the Celebi Pasta. The Halloween menu is also available at the Pokemon Cafe in Osaka that just opened in September.

I must admit, the only thing Halloween about this particular dish is the little carrots on the top but I liked the taste of the pasta -- it was pasta with pesto and the Celebi head was probably made of some sort of bread. 

The Halloween menu at Pokemon Cafe is available until October 31, 2019 and if you order the Pikachu Halloween dish you can purchase the limited Halloween Pikachu plate that it comes together with the dish. The Halloween plate is only available during Halloween season. If you order a drink, you can also get the limited Halloween coaster. 

This is not food related but I also did like this year's Halloween Pikachu plush, because it is a Pikachu dressed up as a Mimikyu. Unfortunately, it is already sold out on the online shop but you still might find it at a Pokemon Center or Pokemon Store.

Halloween sweets at Hattifnat

Hattifnat is a really sweet little cafe that has stores in Kichijouji and Koenji, Tokyo. 

The cafe is characterized by all interior items being a little too small so take care when walking through the front door, especially if you are tall. This year Hattifnat offers a Halloween limited pumpkin cake that looks like a little ghost.

This is really nice if you are afraid of the huge Halloween themed desserts that you can find in other places. Hattifnat's pumpkin cake is a perfect dessert for one person after a regular meal or as a snack in between meals. If you try to visit one of the cafes on the weekend you might have to wait in line for a while but during the week they are usually not too crowded.

Halloween desserts from local bakeries

These are two Halloween desserts from local bakeries here in Japan that I have tried so far. The good thing is that the recent tax increase in Japan does not apply to take-out food so you can still enjoy your Halloween treats at 8% consumption tax.

As with most Halloween desserts the taste was pumpkin, which I personally enjoy as I really like all kinds of pumpkin dishes, from pumpkin salad to pumpkin soup.

Similar cakes are available at most bakeries and patisseries in Japan.  Just check the next big department store and you will most likely find some.

Usually, they start selling the Halloween desserts in Japan at the end of September or the beginning of October and they will likely by available until October 31, 2019. 

With still a few weeks to go, I am looking forward to even more Halloween themed foods in Japan.
