Japanese Halloween Foods in 2020: Part 2

Since I wrote my first post about Halloween foods in Japan this year I found a few more Halloween foods worth mentioning. So here goes.

Halloween Kakigori at Café Lumiere in Kichijouji

Café Lumiere is known for its artistic kakigori creations. Of course, they have a special "Halloween Ice" during Halloween season here in Japan. It was topped with a ghost cookie in sweet potato flavour and pumpkin chips, and covered in a pumpkin caramel sauce. I also liked the walnuts they added for some extra crunch. But I must admit, autumn is not exactly the perfect season for kakigori and I felt a little cold while eating it.

Halloween Pancake at Cafe Accueil in Ebisu

I had seen this pancake at Cafe Accueil in Ebisu on TV and definitely wanted to try it. The pancake was topped with different ice cream and had a pumpkin cake on top that was decorated to look like a jack-o-lantern that had chocolate and chocolate cream as a hat. It also had some chocolate wings for extra details. The sauce on the plate was sweet potato flavour and went very well with the pancakes.

All in all, it looked very artistic and also tasted really good. I managed to finish it on my own but I felt a little guilty afterwards for eating so much sugar.

It was my first time visiting this café in Tokyo's Ebisu district and it has a really nice atmosphere. If you happen to go to Ebisu, give it a try. I went on a weekday and could get a seat immediately without having made a reservation.

Halloween Buffet at the Alice Café "Alice in an old castle" in Ikebukuro

During the Halloween season, the Alice Café in Ikebukuro is holding Halloween buffets on the weekends.

For 3,500 yen you can eat and drink as much as you like for 90 minutes.  The buffet was mainly sweets but they also had foods like potato fries, soup, noodle salad, quiche and curry. The sweets were mostly Halloween themed and a lot had some kind of pumpkin flavour. They were all very cute and had some Alice in Wonderland Vibe to them. You could choose from a large variety of cakes, cookies, puddings, scones, cupcakes and many more. On the drink menu, there were several soft drinks and non-alcoholic cocktails.

Alice Café has a really nice interior that is decorated in careful detail. Considering that I usually pay around 2,500 to 3,000 yen when visiting a cafe for food and drinks I think the price of the "Alice" buffet is very reasonable.  In the end, you also get a teabag as a take-home gift.

For this buffet, you need a reservation and they usually go fast so make up your mind quickly if you plan to go. In November and December, they are doing a Christmas buffet on the weekends.

Halloween season is now over but Christmas season is just around the corner and I am already looking forward to Christmas sweet creations of 2020.  Have you eaten any nice Halloween food? What Christmas food are you looking forward to?
