Summer Dessert from the Q-pot Café
I recently visited the Q-pot Café in Omotesando, Tokyo, to try their newest creation for the summer. Unlike what you might expect from summer, it features a polar bear and snowflake design hoping that everyone who eats it can cool down from the summer heat a little.
The dessert consists of three parts, a parfait made of jelly, mousse and fruit that is topped with a cute ice bear made of meringue, ice that is topped with a chocolate snowflake and a macaron.
The plate is also decorated with blue jelly hearts. For the macaron, you can choose between 4 different flavours: melon, strawberry, lemon and chocolate. The one in the picture is the melon macaron.
I personally was not a big fan of the jelly, but the white mouse, the ice cream and the macaron were very good, and it is a nice cool dessert that helps to refresh in the Japanese summer heat. The dessert plate costs around 2,000 yen and comes with a drink of your choice. They also have a fitting yoghurt lassi drink that comes with a polar bear made of ice cream on top, however, this drink will increase the price by an additional 200 yen.
In my experience, Q-pot Café is not very crowded on weekdays. On weekends you might want to get a reservation which you can do easily via tabelog. Reservations are free of charge but you can only reserve for one or two persons. For reservations for 3 or more persons, you will have to call the cafe on the phone.
If just a dessert is not enough, you can also order an afternoon tea set in the same theme, that comes with a sandwich and a soup for 2,500 yen.
If you prefer take-out, you can also get a tropical mouse cake from Q-pot Café that comes with a cute polar bear on top.
The new desserts are seasonally limited and have been available since July 22, however, I couldn’t find for how long they will be served. I assume it might be until autumn when they will probably start serving a Halloween-themed dessert.
I like that they keep offering seasonally themed desserts at Q-pot Café. It makes it more fun to visit again. At the Q-pot Café they also have each seating area designed in a different style so you can enjoy a different atmosphere every time you visit. This time I got a seat on the large table in the centre that is decorated with fake cakes.
They also have a chocolate-themed area, a sakura-themed area, and others.
Also, I found it interesting that unlike most cafes that offer fruit parfaits in summer, they tried a different approach and themed the summer desserts with a cute polar bear design. If you ask me, they could get rid of the jelly but for some reason, jelly seems to be a thing in Japan in summer and you can find all sorts of jelly desserts in cafes, convenience stores and supermarkets.
If you don’t mind the jelly and want to try a different kind of summer dessert, the Q-pot Café in Omotesando might be a nice option.
