Working as hair and makeup model

Recently I came across a tweet of a student that is studying at a university in Tokyo to become a hair and makeup artist. The student was looking for a hair and makeup model for one of their study projects. I found it interesting and applied. They selected me and I would like to write about how it went. 

We met quite early in the morning close to their university and went there together. There was a huge room where several students were working on their models at the same time. At first, I changed into the outfit that the student had prepared. Then they started with the hair set. As it was quite a complex and high-fashion like hairstyle it took more than two hours until it was done. 

It was quite interesting as I usually don't have any opportunities where I get my hair styled like that. After the hair was done they did the makeup. 

Once everything was done we headed for the shooting studio. The university has a special studio for photo shootings of the students. There a professional cameraman took photos of the hairstyle. I was surprised that the shooting only took 15 minutes. I had done other model jobs before and usually, shootings are much longer, but I guess because all students have to get their models shot on the same day they can't take much time. 

After the shooting was finished we went back to the previous room and the student removed my makeup and then returned my hair to my normal style. 

All in all, it took about 4 hours. 

As you can image students can not pay their models much so these jobs are not the best paying jobs. But it was an interesting experience and I got a small glimpse into how it is like to be a student at that university. As for now, I am not allowed to post the pictures online as they might be used for a hair and makeup contest. But I will be allowed to use them on my social media later. 

I can recommend such jobs for everyone that wants to experience an artistic hairstyle and makeup and maybe also for people that think about studying something along those lines to get an impression of how it is like.

Modelling experience is nice to have but not necessary.

Especially at the moment, it is not easy for the students to find models and for certain styles, foreign models are preferred.
