The chocolate chunks of this product have always been a preferred snack of mine. The sweetness of the chocolate works well with the less-sweet bread. The bread itself is decent in that it doesn’t crumble to pieces, but it has a consistency that is satisfying to bite into. In this version, there is a paste that gives that royal milk tea flavour. There’s a slight note of Earl Grey, but mostly I felt the sweetened milk in the paste. Since it is also pre-packaged, it is a good product to eat on the go. I also think the pricing is quite fair, with a sizable block of bread for 160 yen.

My main demerit is probably the sweetness. It tasted good in the first half, but the second half was difficult to finish as it became a bit sickly. The milk tea sauce/paste became overpowering and it started to sting my tongue. Getting past that, if one enjoys this, the other minus on this is that it seems to be a limited-time item. I haven’t seen it in previous years, but I can imagine it will leave the shelves of NewDays in a month or two, replaced by a new variation on the chocolate chunk bread.
