The description

Oorin sour is a low-alcohol (3%) beverage in the J-CRAFT TRIP series. The series is a collaboration with Ko Trip, a travel magazine and Mitsubishi Foods.

The good

In October 2024, J-Craft TRIP, a series of low-alcohol shochu highballs, added Oorin to the lineup. The drinks are a collaboration with Koturippu, a travel guidebook series. This time, armchair travellers are treated to a drink prepared with Ourin, the "king of apples", cultivated in Aomori Prefecture. The series of drinks only 3% alcohol, not enough to make you silly. The low alcohol and soda make the apple flavor of the Ourin shine. The can design features images of apple orchards and Mt. Iwaki.

The not so good

Like the other J-TRIP shochu highballs, this is a lovely chuhai featuring regional produce with a label design that either makes you feel nostalgic or entices you to visit. The price is reasonable for these novelty chuhais. I have yet to visit Aomori Prefecture, so I don't have a preconceived notion. But I do like the apple flavor. Ourin is a hybrid of Golden Delicious and Indian apples and Aomori is one of the biggest producers of this variety in Japan. The chuhai is fragrant and the flavor sweet but not cloying.
