When you're on the go and you want a bread snack, 7-11 is a good option. In July this year, 7-11 has a retro series of bakery items that are pretty good. But don't pass up the more pedestrian choices. This one, kongari chizu pan, or crispy cheese bread, has a lightly grilled cheese topping seasoned with pepper. It's pretty good as a breakfast or coffee break snack. It's not chintzy on the cheese. Note that the bread contains milk, wheat, and eggs, so it's not suitable for people with dietary restrictions.

Kongari chizu pan, or crispy cheese bread, is not bad for the price. It's on the savory side, but like a lot of Japanese bakery products, it's sweetened. It's hard to avoid sugar-laden bread in Japan. The label indicates the price is 138 yen, but I took advantage of the ongoing 7-11 coupon campaign which reduced the price to about 100 yen. I recommend that if you're a regular of the local "Sevvie". The campaign goes until July 29th. You get a break of 30 or 50 yen on a lot of essentials and treats.
