Tobu's amusement ride
The Tobu train lines come up with new campaign posters to encourage passengers to mind their manners. The messages on the posters often depend on puns.
This autumn, the posters display もじり mojiri, substituting a word with a similar-sounding one. The creatures are weasels, called イタチ itachi in Japanese. "You're welcome" is rendered どうイタチまして douitachimashite. It also sounds a child's attempt at the mouthful of syllables. Cuteness overload!
Do you notice wordplay on advertising or announcements? Do they tickle your funnybone or leave you scratching your head?
