Tokyo Midtown Christmas Illumination

Tokyo has many Christmas illumination spots that light up the time before Christmas every year and it is sometimes difficult to pick from them all if you only can visit a few when you are in the city. One of the more popular illuminations is the Tokyo Midtown Winter Lights event, which takes place from November 17th until December 25th this year.

The highlight of this open-air illumination is the huge snow globe surrounded by colorful lights. A light show takes place there with changing colors and sounds. Until December 12th they also added some bubbles to the attraction, but as last year, I missed these again because we just visited there last week. I wonder why they don't keep the bubbles for the last two more weeks of the event?

Another attraction is the Christmas tree which is called “Party Popper” this year and also changes color. Between those two spots is a path with light-up trees which is nice for a stroll with your loved ones.

As you can see, Netflix is a sponsoring partner and you can't miss all the advertisements for movies and series running on the streaming platform all around the area.

You also can show your talent by skating on the ice with the Midtown Ice Rink or have some fun there if you are out with your kids. The skating ring stays there until February 26th, so there is still plenty of time to go this winter. It is open from 11:00 to 21:00 every day and you have to pay for usage.

We visited around 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday evening and it was quite crowded, but still okay to walk, take photos and enjoy the view. Furthermore, Tokyo Midtown is located in the middle of Tokyo with easy access to Roppongi station with several train lines.

I like the Midtown chain of Malls, a few months ago I went to a movie viewing outside the Midtown Hibya mall, that was free and in English. Midtown has fun events.
