Valentine’s Afternoon Tea in Tokyo
I love going to afternoon teas and decided to visit a Valentine-themed one this year together with my colleague from school. Because my budget is not too high right now, we decided against the expensive afternoon teas for 5,000+ yen and looked for a more reasonable one – and found one!
I have been to Café Accueil in Ebisu already twice before. The first time was when they had special mint chocolate pancakes last summer and the second time was for their shine muscat afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday in September. So, this time I was excited to try out the “Slightly Grown-Up Chocolat Valentine” (ちょっと大人なショコラバレンタイン) which they only offer for two weeks, from 1st to 14th February 2023.
Price-wise, there are three options:
- 2,640 yen for only the afternoon tea stand
- 2,970 yen for the afternoon tea stand plus one drink
- 3,245 yen for the afternoon tea stand plus all-you-can-drink for two hours
We decided on the last option with all-you-can-drink and along with coffee and tea they also had some special tea by the brand “amsu tea” - the “relax berry tea” was so delicious, that I am thinking about buying this for me.
The afternoon tea stand consists of eleven pieces; two are savory and the rest are sweet.
I started with the savory snacks, a minced meat and cheese quiche and a croissant with scrambled egg, tomato and bacon. Both were delicious and a good base for the sweets to come.
Café Accueil is known for its pancakes; therefore, a small one is included in the afternoon tea. As for the Valentine's theme, it is a chocolate pancake with a strawberry. You can enjoy it together with some chocolate cream and berry sauce served in a small cup.
After finishing the lower plate, it was time for all the sweet treats on the top plate. I really loved the chocolate macaron, the chocolate pudding, and the Gateau Pancake. The last one looked like a tiny cake and came with hearts made of white chocolate. Moving on with a cannelé-style chocolate financier (another tiny chocolate cake) and pistachio chocolate meringue. The chocolate-covered strawberry and the fresh strawberry were nice in between the sweets to have something fruity.
The only thing I did not like was the coffee jelly tiramisu, but this is because I don’t like coffee. I ate the upper tiramisu part and left the coffee jelly behind.
Overall, I was very happy with this Valentine’s afternoon tea, especially as a chocolate lover. My colleague said it was a bit too much chocolate for her and she can’t see sweets for the next few days – but well, these are all personal views.
As this afternoon tea will be over when you read this article, don’t be said, because Café Accueil is always offering nice seasonal afternoon teas. They already announced the White Day special, which will stay for one month until March 14th, 2023.
Even on a weekday, people were lining up outside the café, so I recommend booking your seat online beforehand, such as we did. You can do it on the official website or one of the several booking websites.
