Enjoy a Foodie Halloween 2020 in Japan
It's Halloween season in Japan, however the current situation with covid is not allowing us to have the usual Halloween parties as in the years before. Most of the Halloween parades and events here in Japan have been cancelled and if you are into the Halloween season, you have to find another way to enjoy it this year.
I am going the foodie way this time - trying out different cafés and take-out offers, which seem to be endless with all the Halloween things around.
Here are four places in Tokyo which bring the Halloween vibes into your life.
Halloween Sweets Buffet at Conrad Tokyo Hotel
I always wanted to go to one of these fancy hotels for a sweets buffet and so Halloween was the perfect timing. At the restaurant Cerise on the 28th floor of the Conrad Tokyo, in Minato Ward, they have created pretty treats in the Halloween style - black cats, ghosts, skulls, coffins and much more. I absolutely liked it! It is a bit pricy at about 5,000 yen for a 90-minute all-you-can-eat, but you can taste the quality of all the different pieces.

Sanrio Halloween Afternoon Tea Set at Egg & Spuma
Another nice option for cute Halloween sweets is the afternoon tea set of Egg & Spuma at Lumine EST in Shinjuku. They have a Sanrio collaboration running until October 31st which includes different dishes and drinks. For something around 4,000 yen you get the sweets set with two soft drinks - so it is something to share and there are many different things to try out.

Halloween Plate at Pokemon Cafe
The Pokemon Cafe is also not missing out on a Halloween event, even though you only can get one dish there. The Halloween plate is themed with the Pokemon Mimikyu, which is actually one of my favorites and the reason I wanted to have it. The set includes a savory dish, a fruity drink and a plastic case for masks (or other things). At 3,309 yen it is a usual price for character cafes and at least you also get a little extra.

Halloween Doughnuts
For sure, many take-out shops are offering Halloween specials - including the well-known doughnut shops.
I already got the Halloween doughnuts from Mister Donut at the beginning of September. They have a variety of five versions with each being quite different - albeit them similar to the chain's usual selection. The only special things are the decorations which make them look like bats, cats, ghosts and mummies with some fantasy.

Another shop with Halloween doughnuts in Japan is Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. I got two from their selection - a black cat with a caramel taste and a pumpkin with custard filling. They are more pricey than Mister Donut, but for me also more delicious.

This was a small collection of ways how to enjoy a foodie Halloween in Japan this year. For sure, there are a lot more. Especially in regards to the fancy afternoon tea places it was difficult to choose. So, keep your eyes open when you are up for a Halloween treat!
