Japan Food Adventure: Ginza Matcha Cake
Tokyo Banana is a very famous sweet in Tokyo area and perfect as a souvenir from your trip to Japan’s capital (find more info about it on my Tokyo Sweets article). They have many different versions and tasted in their assortment, but it took several years until Tokyo Banana came up with a matcha flavor. Since 14th October 2017 you can get the Ginza Matcha Cake!
The Ginza Matcha Cake, in Japanese called 銀座のお抹茶ケーキ or in English also THE MATCHA CAKE from GINZA, consists of the fluffy outside known from Tokyo Banana. On top you find a little green heart. Inside you find a mix of Uji Matcha and a sweet red bean paste cream from Hokkaido. All this completed with a layer of matcha milk cream. Sounds too good to be true, especially for me as a lover of Tokyo Banana.
This sweet souvenir comes in three different sized gift boxes, starting with 4 pieces for 560 yen, 8 pieces for 1,080 yen and up to 12 pieces for 1,620 yen.
Unfortunately, it is a little bit difficult to get the Ginza Matcha Cake, because it is only on sale at Tokyo Tower. Luckily, they also started to sell it at several airports all over Japan (Haneda Airport, Narita Airport, Kansai Airport, Shin-Chitose Airport and Chubu Centrair Airport), so I could get my hands on it when we went to Okinawa from Haneda Airport at the beginning of January.
I bought myself a box with four pieces, in mind that you should eat them within seven days. The box is really cute and I like the design with the little green heard and the green ribbon. The taste is also nice. As I mentioned before, I like the fluffy sponge cake from Tokyo Banana and it is exactly what you get here, too. The matcha & red bean filling is a nice combination. The matcha taste is rather strong, but together with the sweet beans and the sponge cake around it goes very well. I enjoyed the snack and couldn’t resist eating a second one right away after I tried the first.
Yummy~ ♥
