Weeping blossoms - the prettiest kind?
Over the years I've thought about the kinds of blossoms that I like the most, and I think that shidarezakura, or weeping cherry blossoms, are up there with the best. There is something extremely ethereal about these kinds of blossoms, and I think that's a big part of the appeal.
Yukyuzan Park in Nagaoka is one destination where you can enjoy weeping blossoms (among other types) here in Niigata. Photo from a previous year—it's not quite blooming time here, yet!
Here in Niigata, there are several great places to enjoy weeping blossoms. A couple of close-ish ones to me are Yuzawa Central Park and Yukyuzan Park (Nagaoka), and either spot is really nice for a springtime visit. Yukyuzan Park is particularly nice if you have young kids, since there is a small zoo and lots of play equipment within the park grounds.
Do you have a favorite kind of cherry blossom? What makes it so appealing to you?
