The description

This product is a Taiwanese Pepper Bun Pie, and it's available for a limited time at Mister Donut stores. It was priced at 264 yen for eat-in, it's slightly cheaper for to-go.

The good

Misdo are usually known for their array of sweet treats, but if you've got a hankering for something savory then this new Taiwanese pepper bun pie definitely hits the spot! It's inspired by traditional Hujiao bing buns from the region, and the filling is made up of pork, pepper, and five-spice powder which provides a really delicious taste. The outer is a flaky puff pastry, and as someone who comes from a country known for savory meat pies I found this to be delicious and satisfying. The price isn't bad, either -- we stopped in to eat, but you can get it slightly cheaper if you purchase it to-go.

The not so good

This is a touch oily, but I do think the combo of meat and puff pastry kinda lends itself to that. Not a big deal really, it wasn't overly greasy or anything. All things considered I thought this was a really tasty snack. I usually think of Mister Donut as somewhere to get a sweet treat, so it's always nice when they have new, fun savory choices on their menu. As this is a limited time thing it's likely to only be around for a few weeks, so if it sounds good to you be sure to pop into your nearest Misdo store sooner rather than later. Happy eating, and enjoy!
