Results of Mercer's Cost of Living survey for 2024
A report that I enjoy perusing each year is the Mercer's Cost of Living survey, and the results of the 2024 research were released in the past few days. One of the biggest things to take away from this report is the fact that Tokyo (the first Japanese city on the list) is at 49th place, having dropped a pretty massive 30 spots from last year. For reference, the top three most expensive cities were Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich, with those figures unchanged from last year.
Views from Mt. Takao in Tokyo. The city dropped 30 spots in Mercer's cost of living rankings since last year.
Osaka came in at 146th, Yokohama was 154th, and Nagoya was 161st, and just like Tokyo, all of those cities also dropped in where they sat on the list from last year. Overall, I think that's pretty good news! I'd recommend heading over to the report that I linked above if you want a more in-depth rundown -- it makes for some interesting reading!
