Has living in Japan changed your customer service perceptions?
I'm not going to lie, I always love reading reviews here on City-Cost that have something in the heading relating to bad customer service. Why, you ask? Well, it could be because I'm a stickybeak, but I also think it's so fascinating to see what constitutes good or bad customer service here—and perhaps how that differs when we compare it to our respective countries of origin.
My husband and I often talk about Japan being a very solid "good" when it comes to customer service—consistent is probably an appropriate word to use. You might not have the over the top smiles and conversation of some countries, but I feel like overall the level of service is dependable and reliable. I have only had a handful of what I'd call rude customer service experiences here in over a decade, whereas in my home country that would probably happen within a few months. In saying that, I've also had more experiences that stand out as "warm and fuzzy" in my home country than here.
If the human customer service isn't standing out, the robots have it covered ;)
Do you think Japan has changed how you look at good versus bad customer service? Are your expectations higher overall now given that "omotenashi" concept we have become accustomed to?
