FREEBIE - Japan's Biggest Sand Dune
It dawned on me that all my posts on this site are about costs of living and travel, and nothing specific about destinations. Japan has a lot of free and cheap attractions, and one of the best ones is definitely Tottori Sakyu - Japan's biggest sand dune in Tottori.
I think it's one of the best because it's definitely out there for Japan, both geographically and figuratively - have you ever associated sand dunes with Japan? I don't know about you, but when I think of Japan, I think of culture and history because my mother's family is Japanese.
The only reason I got to see Tottori Sakyu is because I was sent to Tottori for work, and I took the spare time that I had to go sightseeing. Whenever I'm sent anywhere for work, I spend as much time as I can sightseeing; I go as early as possible and leave as late as possible. :D Work always covers your transportation and accommodations, so it costs you next to nothing to go sightseeing.
Anyway, check out last week's Photo Friday post I did on Tottori Sakyu - http://www.trekkingwithbecky.com/japans-biggest-sand-dune/ :D I hope you make it there some day and that you enjoy other posts. :D
