Coffee Roaster off the Beaten Path
This is an interesting establishment that’s a bit out of the way for many folks. People who are serious about their coffee might find this little shop interesting though, as the owner roasts all of his beans and packages them in front of you. As a result, you get to see and smell a bit of the coffee as he goes about his work. There is no English available here whatsoever, so if you don’t speak Japanese well, you might be better off passing on this place. However, the owner seems to know his coffee beans well and can recommend the type of bean and how dark to roast it to suit your taste. On my visit, he went on about how certain beans will give you a hint of chocolate or nuts if roasted dark, and how long to keep them for the flavour to mature. While he roasts, he will give you a cup of the coffee you ordered as well, so you can preview the flavours that you will be tasting at home when you bring the bag of roasted beans home. A single bag of beans will average at around 1600 yen, but there are some snacks in the establishment that might tempt you to spend more.
