別府冷麺
This shop just opened the day we went and we went for their cold noodles, or reimen. Apparently there is Beppu Reimen, but I had no idea after going several times. The restaurant specializes in toriten- chicken tempura, and karage- fried chicken. They also sell Hita yakisoba, which we had never heard of. Cold noodles sounded best on a hot day. The noodles are Korean style, slightly spicy, with a topping of sliced beef, onsen steamed egg, and kimchi. Not amazing, but pretty good. The noodles are a little undercooked but that gives it a nice texture. The size was good enough for a meal although the chicken onigiri may have been nice if we were hungrier.
