A splurge for a special experience

In over two decades in Japan, I've seen jinrikisha in Kamakura, at Sensoji, but never took the chance to ride one. I wondered what the appeal was. With a companion who also had never experienced it, I had a chance to ride at Kawagoe City. I highly recommend it! The jinrikisha elevates you a little higher than pedestrian and car traffic, so you get a much different view of the kura storehouses. You're also out on the road surface which affords you wider views and you might catch architectural details that you can't see from the sidewalks. The jinrikisha pullers describe the notable sights and fill you in on historical and cultural details.

    When in Rome...

A rickshaw ride is one of the quintessential things 'to do' while in Kawagoe. However, the price is a big deterrent for many, at 2000 yen for just 20 minutes for one person. But it is a really fun way to see the old town and makes for a great photo too. The address of this review is of the location from where the rickshaws go, in front of Times Parking lot. The company that runs these rickshaws is located on a different street. There are various different rickshaw companies, they are all priced similarly.
