Excellent seafood and presentation
If you choose to stay at accommodation near Awa-Amatsu Station in Kamogawa City, you better have wheels! There are very few restaurants and izakayas in the immediate area. And those close early, especially in the off season. Sumibiya, adjacent to Hidamari Inn, is the only place I could find open for dinner on my winter visit! However, it's excellent, serving not only local seafood for which the area is known, but also wild boar caught in the mountains above the port, and vegetables grown in the region. I had a simple dinner of fish croquettes that were fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside, seasoned with red pepper and grilled onigiri made with local rice. The signature dish here is paella, but the serving is too big for a single diner like me.
