Date night fun
It's been a while now since I have visited Cosmo World, but it was a favorite pre-kids for a date night spot. There are a range of fun rides to enjoy, and it has a fun feel after dark when the city lights up. Now that my kids are a bit older to be able to enjoy some of the rides for themselves, we really need to plan a trip back here.

Add a splash of adrenaline to your port visit
Cosmo World is strategically located beside a number of Yokohama Port's tourist attractions. Unlike a lot of amusement parks where you pay to enter, Cosmo world has no cover charge and is free to roam around. Each ride is charged individually, usually upwards of 300 yen per ride. Cosmo World is designed in such a way that they get maximum profit from minimal usage. It is quite common for people to just come and ride one of the main attractions and then move on to their next tourist stop. It is both the beauty and the catch of this port side funfair; you can just pay a quick visit, but you pay a fine yennie for the pleasure. Cosmo World is a popular place for couples and a group of friends. You don't see as many families as at other amusement parks at the main attractions, such as the roller coasters, as they are not suited to small children. However, they also have a great area for even the smallest of children. Cosmo World is particularly fun at night. They light up the mammoth big wheel. It is part of the famous Yokohama night scene, one of Japan's best known night scenes. Access by public transport is recommended. The nearest stations are JR Sakuragicho and Minato Mirai Stations.

An amusement park in the heart of downtown Yokohama
Going to Yokohama and seeing any of its famous sights downtown, it's hard to miss Cosmo World. Even if you aren't looking for it, the large ferris wheel and roller coasters will catch your attention. Located a quick walk away from JR Sakuragicho or Minato Mirai Station, it's worth your time to stop in, even just for a quick look around. There is no entrance fee to this amusement park. You can enter and exit freely if you just want to look around. Instead, you purchase tickets ala carte for each attraction you want to ride. They're all pretty reasonably priced, so you could realistically get in three or four different rides without breaking the bank. The main attractions are the ferris wheel and vanishing roller coaster. The ferris wheel is actually the largest clock ferris wheel in the world, if I recall correctly. It also has a few glass bottomed carriages. If you're brave and want to ride a glass bottomed one, it's the same price. You just have to wait in a separate line, which, depending on the time of day, isn't that much longer of a wait. The vanishing coaster is pretty cool. After a few quick loops and whiplash-inducing turns, for anyone watching from the sidelines, the cars appear to disappear under the water with a splash. Actually, you're plunged into darkness under a small body of water, where you emerge from the other side, unharmed. The drop was steeper than I was expecting, too. There is an entire game center located within the park's grounds, so if you're tired of games, you can try your hand at some arcade games or winning a prize or two. I find that the prizes here are pretty hard to win, though. At least, I've never won anything. I recommend Cosmo World if you're going on a date or if you just want to spend a relaxing afternoon with your friends or family. The park is small enough where it won't take an entire day, but it's still fun. Plus, you can pick and choose which rides you're interested in, and not have to wait in a long line for any of them.
