Huge central city station with shopping
Chiba City's central hub, Chiba Station, was extensively renovated about 10 years ago with better signage and more shopping. The signage is much bigger and bolder, making it easier to read. However, the wayfinding is a little confusing. Some platform signs indicate opposite directions so you can't count on them. Look at the electronic signboards for the platform number of your train. The station has an extensive "ekinaka" shopping complex that connects to a handful of other malls around the station. You can get just about anything here. The interior is clean and well-lit, periodically has projection mapping on walls and stairs and a huge digital interactive display at the east exit.
