Kamogawa Sea World 鴨川シーワールド

Accessible, lots to see

I'm not a big fan of aquaria that hold captive whales, but with an open mind, I Kamogawa SeaWorld on a weekday in December. A free shuttle bus from Awa Kamogawa Station takes about 10 minutes every hour. There are also excursion tickets that include highway bus fare and admission tickets, but I was already in the city. The site is large, and you can take your time walking through the various marine landscape exhibits. Many of the tide pool and beach habitat exhibits let you get a very close view of the creatures. At the orca pool, keepers gave an orientation to a group of school kids and the orcas seemed pretty relaxed and responded very quickly to the keepers. I didn't see the performance. The facility has tanks with a lot of information about breeding and conservation. I recommend eating a good breakfast and eating snacks. The food court fare was unappetizing and the restaurant meals are about the same price as the admission ticket.
