The description
Chibori Confectionery teams up with Mother Farm, the vast agricultural park in Chiba Prefecture to offer langue de chat made with milk sourced from the farm.
The good
Before I tell you about the treats, here's the story on the farm. In the 1960s, Tokyo City councillor Maeda made a mint in broadcasting, setting up various radio stations. He bought a huge ranch in rural Futtsu, across the bay from Tokyo. He named the ranch Mother Farm in tribute to his own mother. She was raised in a poor farming family and dairy farming was a lifesaver. Today, Mother Farm is an attraction where kids can meet farm animals. These langue de chat cookies are made from milk produced on the farm.
The not so good
Mother Farm Gyunyu Langue de Chat Roll come eight items to a box, each individually wrapped, and they're priced at about 400 yen. The price may vary. I got these at a 7-11 in Chiba Prefecture. The product has a limited distrubution to shops within the prefecture. These delicate rolled cookies are pretty good and they make great omiyage. The story of Maeda, the city councillor who looked over Tokyo Bay to imagine a vast farm is told on the back of the box. Besides going well with tea, the packaging might spur you to visit this farm experience on Tokyo's doorstep.
