The description

This product is the new "Spoon Crush" overflowing chocolate rich matcha ice cream cup from Haagen-Dazs. I purchased it from 7-11, and it was priced at 351 yen.

The good

This is the second product in Haagen-Dazs's new "Spoon Crush" range (the other being the berry/cookie variety), and I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates traditional Japanese flavors with a touch of Western spin to them. The base layer of this is a rich matcha ice cream, which is then topped with a chocolate flavored sauce and then a layer of crunchy chocolate that you "crack" through to get to the rest of the product. The chocolate helps to offset the slight bitter/earthiness of the matcha ice cream, and the flavors pair together nicely. It is expensive IMO at 351 yen including tax, but it does taste and present itself like a more gourmet/luxury ice cream product.

The not so good

As I mentioned above, this is one of the pricier items from the convenience store freezer section at 351 yen including tax. If you are just after an icy treat and don't mind too much about the flavor or the brand, then there are a myriad of other options you could pick from for half the price. Overall though, if you like matcha and fun textures with your ice creams of choice, this is a nice option to try, if only once. Keep an eye out for it at your nearest convenience store if it sounds appealing to you. Happy eating!
