Spots for koinobori in Niigata Prefecture

One of my favorite things about the Golden Week holiday break is seeking out the beautiful, colorful koinobori that are hung up in anticipation of Children's Day on May 5th. If you're in Niigata Prefecture or passing through, these are a couple of spots where you can enjoy them in the region.

Osaki Dam Park

This is a favorite spot for me and my family, in part for the koinobori, and in part because it's a nice spot for sakura, too. It's also a pretty under the radar gem, since it's in an area that doesn't receive a ton of inbound tourism outside snow season.

Kamo Koinobori Festival

If you're looking for a more festival-vibe for your koinobori experience, the Kamo Koinobori Festival is one to check out. Running until May 6th this year, the event sees around 500 koinobori on display over the Kamo River.
