Survey finds more people choosing to work part-time in Golden Week
Golden Week is often seen as prime time here for vacations, but a new survey by part-time job app Sharefull has revealed that more people are choosing to work instead of travel. They surveyed over 26,000 users about their Golden Week plans, and about 43% said they want to work part-time during the holidays.
The desire to earn extra money was the main motivator, with around 63% of respondents citing it as their top reason. Temporary workers were especially keen in this regard, with 57% saying they planned to work. Interestingly, teenagers and those in their 50s were the most likely age groups to take on extra jobs, showing that both young people saving for the future and older workers looking to boost their income are embracing flexible work options.
While many still plan to relax or travel, the number of people mixing work and play is growing. Some respondents mentioned wanting to work in between sightseeing trips, highlighting a rising trend toward using time more efficiently, even during holidays.
This shift points to broader changes in how major breaks like Golden Week are approached. Instead of purely resting, it seems that more people are looking for ways to make the most of their time and balance their finances. As flexible work styles become more common, it’s clear that the traditional image of Golden Week as a purely leisure-focused time is evolving. The ever-increasing cost of living is also probably playing into it, since most of us (myself included!) are trying to find ways to make a bit of extra cash to support our households.
If you have flexible work options or the ability to pick up shifts over Golden Week, will you be opting to squeeze some work in?
