Springtime appreciation: trunk blossoms

There are many reasons that I love spring's blossoms, and the primary one is probably because it means winter is over ;) Jokes aside, one thing I always find really cool when I see it here is blossoms growing out of tree trunks.

The closest thing I've seen to describing it is "cauliflory" but I'm not sure that it's definitely the right term in this case. All that to say, it's one of those phenomena that still makes me smile every time I see it, because of the unexpected contrast it provides.

Some of you more experienced (and better at the language) Japan-hands might possibly know if there's a term for it in Japanese, and I'd love to know about it if so!

I absolutely adore "doubuki zakura" (its on my list!). One of my all time favorite cherry blossom photos in my own collection, is of a sakura on a moss covered tree trunk that I took in my early years here and I use it as the icon of my website. So I have looked at it almost every single day for the last 19 years, but never tire of it, never had an inclination to change it. Like you, I think its the atypical contrast that does it for me!
